Great equestrian results at Nationals
Date: October 10, 2016
Three students from St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School recently represented the School in Sydney at the Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships.
These championships attract over 2000 school-based competitors from all over Australia aged between 5 and 18 years old.
Year 5 student Zoe Waller from the St Paul’s Warragul Junior School jumped clear throughout the week and placed fifth overall in the 80cm Primary Show Jumping Championship on her horse Lakevale Moonsprite, with a sixth and a third in her events. The Victorian Primary Show Jumping team placed as reserve champions. This is the first time Zoe has represented Victoria and she is already planning her qualification route for 2017.
St Paul’s Warragul Secondary School students and members of the St Paul’s Elite Sports Performers Program Emily Downes (Year 12) and Sophie Bennett (Year 8) also competed at the Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships.
Emily Downes came 11th in the AM5, received a second in the 2phase and a third in the A2, the points added up to Reserve Champion overall in her class which is a fantastic achievement.
Sophie Bennett competed in Cross Country and her run finished exactly on optimum time clear which meant she won the special Eventer’s Award across all levels. Sophie also came tenth in Show Jumping in her division.
