Encouraging students to discover their inner talents.

Our classroom music program is designed to engage students from their beginning experiences in the ELC, right through to their advanced performances at Year 12.

Traralgon Junior School Music Program

In the early years the Traralgon staff run a Pre School music program one morning a week which has proven quite successful and enjoyable.

In Year 3 in Traralgon our classroom music students participate in a ‘Strings’ program.  For the first semester of the year each student is allocated a violin and the class work together to learn the basics of playing.  At the commencement of Semester 2, the students have the option to continue studying violin in groups of three as part of the co-curricular program.

Aside from these specialist areas of study, the Junior School music program aims to engage the students in music through a broad combination of singing, movement and performance.

Warragul Junior School Music Program

In Year 2 in Warragul our classroom music students participate in a ‘Strings’ program.  For the first semester of the year each student is allocated a violin, and the class work together to learn the basics of playing.  At the commencement of Semester 2, the students have the option to continue studying violin in groups of three as part of the co-curricular program.

The Year 5 Brass and Woodwind program in Warragul provides an opportunity for students to learn Saxophone, Trumpet, Flute or Clarinet.  The students are allocated an instrument based on their preference, suitability and aptitude for that instrument. At the end of the first semester, the students have the option of continuing study on their chosen instrument.

Aside from these specialist areas of study, the Junior School music program aims to engage the students in music through a broad combination of singing, movement and performance.

Warragul and Traralgon Secondary Music Program

The Middle School classroom music program endeavours to provide our students with a well-rounded appreciation for music from a broad range of styles, as well as setting them up with a strong theoretical and practical base which will provide them the skills required to advance into the senior years of music study with confidence.  Some key areas of study include tuned and un-tuned percussion, singing, listening and music theory.  Students with prior experience as instrumentalists or singers are encouraged to share their talents with their class.  All students are taught the importance of proper etiquette as audience members.

At Year 7 all students participate in a unit of music and at Year 8 the students can choose between music or drama for a full semester.  When our students reach Year 9 they have the option of choosing music as an elective subject.

As the students advance into the senior years they are allowed the opportunity to further develop their skills as soloists and ensemble members.

At the Warragul Campus the Year 10 music course is designed with a strong focus on performance and learning the organisational skills required when working in groups and organising events.  The Year 10 class are often invited to perform at concerts and their work is recorded at a professional recording studio in Melbourne.

At Years 11 and 12, VCE Music Performance Units 1 – 4 are offered over a two year period.
