Careers Education – Planning for the future
At St Paul’s, the extensive Years 10-12 Careers Program is designed to provide your child with every opportunity to maximise their potential. To assist students in thinking about possible career choices that suit them and that they may enjoy, students in Year 10 undertake Career Wise testing. The Career Wise testing is provided as part of the Year 10 Careers Program through an external organisation who provide career assessments of which results are collated into a comprehensive report. When the results are received, parents and students are provided with a ‘feedback’ evening where the information from the tests is explained and any questions can be answered.
The Year 10 Careers Conference held at Phillip Island, provides students with work-related knowledge and information on what business is looking for in the twenty-first century. From Year 10, students can also undertake direct work experience placements to understand first-hand what is required of them in the workforce. Along with this, St Paul’s also regularly delivers career forums to students where guest speakers, including alumni, provide real-knowledge of industry from their experience, and representatives from the Australian Defence Force visit annually to provide information about the ADF Gap year and career pathways.
Students also have the opportunity to complete a VETiS Certificate in Sport and Recreation and CISCO (delivered at school) or external VETiS (for example Media and Communication; Plumbing) to receive an early direct qualification for use within the industry.
St Paul’s has an extensive collection of information available to assist students and parents through the senior years journey. Students and parents can access this information via the school’s portal, MyStPauls, or by clicking the MyStPauls Careers Page icon below (you will be asked for your student or parent login details).
