Centrepiece is an annual Performing Arts concert for the Warragul Secondary School held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre. The purpose of the concert is to showcase the most outstanding (solo and group) music, drama and dance performers we have at the St Paul’s, Warragul Secondary School.
Students are given the opportunity to perform in a professional environment in front of an audience of parents, friends and members of the public. To be eligible for a place on the Centrepiece stage, soloists must complete an audition similar to that which they might experience if trying for a place in an applicable tertiary institution or professional production.
With the Arts Centre under renovations in 2017 and 2018, the senior backstage crew were given the opportunity to coordinate the transformation of the Miller’s Factory Year 9 Centre into a first class performance area using a system of lighting, trusses, staging and audio equipment. These students were able to use this event as part of their business portfolio and have been hired as professionals for this year’s event.
Over the years, many students have used their experience in Centrepiece as part of their resume when applying for university and some have used the video recording of their performances to audition for overseas institutions.
Centrepiece is a genuinely enjoyable and valuable experience for both the performers and audience alike.
