Centrepiece is an annual performing arts concert held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre. The purpose of the concert is to showcase the most outstanding (solo and group) music, drama and dance performers we have at St Paul’s, and in 2022, will be a combined concert of students from both the Warragul and Traralgon Campuses.
Students are given the opportunity to perform in a professional environment in front of an audience of parents, friends and members of the public. To be eligible for a place on the Centrepiece stage, soloists must complete an audition similar to that which they might experience if trying for a place in an applicable tertiary institution or professional production.
Centrepiece is not just about the performers in the spotlight but also offers current students opportunities to work directly with the professional sound and lighting engineers at the West Gipplsand Arts Centre, and are often given the responsibility to operate during performance. We are very fortunate to have such a strong working relationship with the West Gippland Arts Centre, allowing us to give our students real world experience in a world class theatre. These students were able to use this event as part of their business portfolio and work experience, and have been hired as professionals for this year’s event.
Over the years, many students have used their experience in Centrepiece as part of their resume when applying for university and some have used the video recording of their performances to audition for overseas institutions.
Centrepiece is a genuinely enjoyable and valuable experience for both the performers and audience alike.
