Science teacher and Head of Year 12
“I have felt part of a community from the day I started at the School.”
Julia has been a teacher at St Paul’s for almost seven years and is mad about Science, in particular Biology. Before working at St Paul’s Julia was fortunate enough to work for a WWF organisation in Italy collecting data on marine life. “Biology offers possible answers to the many questions I have about existence. It blows my mind.”
We asked Julia a few questions about his teaching…
What do you like most about St Paul’s?
“The opportunities!” For students, and for staff. We are blessed to have passionate staff and to work with so many students who are hungry to find out what life has to offer, and who are always searching for more. I love trying new things and St Paul’s allows me to provide opportunities for others to do so too. An example of this is the phenomenal Ningaloo Reef Tour, during which I get to share with students their first experience of SCUBA diving or swimming with whale sharks.
What do you think is different about St Paul’s to other schools?
I have felt part of a community from the day I started at the School. I was welcomed by this community of staff, students and parents, experienced a sense of belonging and – being new to the profession – I felt completely supported. This sense of community extends beyond the school grounds and care for its members is what makes it so special. I also think our School offers so many occasions for students to explore their interests and talent (far more than they sometimes realise) and this really sets St Paul’s apart from other schools. The Science program is pretty amazing too!
And finally, what do you enjoy most about being a teacher?
I have continued to learn so much every day, about myself, about people and about Science. I love the stimulating conversations that I have daily with both students and staff. I also love watching the unique and impressive ways young people interpret the world around them.
Outside of work Julia loves to share meals, loves music, SCUBA diving and exploring the world!
